Board of Directors
The directors of the Company are Dr Brian O’Connor, John Mather, Robert Davidson and Simon Bullock.
Dr. Brian O’Connor is Chairman of HSW and President of The Independent Doctors Federation. He graduated from Dublin in 1980, completed his postgraduate general medical training there and passed the examination for membership of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1984. He moved to Royal Brompton Hospital in 1988 to complete his specialist respiratory training and completed an MD thesis on research into airway inflammation and asthma.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and of the Royal College of Physicians of London. In 1992 Dr O’Connor was appointed as Senior Lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute and a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Royal Brompton Hospital in London. There he established a leading edge clinical research facility, to investigate new treatment strategies in Airways Disease. In 1997 he relocated to Kings College School of Medicine to continue his clinical research and was appointed Consultant Respiratory Physician at Kings College Hospital until March 2008, when he commenced full time private practice.
In private practice since 1996, Dr O’Connor remains fully active in clinical research on Airways Diseases. He has published and presented more than 200 papers in high impact Peer Review Journals and at international scientific meetings. Dr O’Connor has edited books, and written chapters on Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). He has sat on prestigious Advisory Boards for learned societies, various healthcare institutions and has served as vice-chair of King’s College Hospital Local Research Ethics Committee, as well as Chair for Medical Advisory Meetings (MAC) at Queen Anne Street Medical Centre.
John Mather (BSc. Dip PFS) was originally a Research Scientist with IBM. Subsequently John has acted as Financial Adviser to a number of high net worth clients. Over the last 45 years, he has produced innovative investments mainly for the EIS and pension fund market, including the structuring of specialist Unit Trusts.
Bob Davidson (MCIM, MIBiol) originally trained as a research immunologist with Unilever, before moving into medical marketing. He held the position of National Sales Manager at Abbott Laboratories (Diagnostics) during the fastest period of growth in the diagnostics market. He was also Marketing Director for the UK's largest private pathology and contract laboratory, JS Pathology. Bob then set up the healthcare marketing consultancy, Davidson Consulting, whose clients included a number of London’s NHS Trusts and Teaching Hospitals. Major projects included launching an innovative medical publishing business, business planning and design for the new west London pathology service at Hammersmith Hospital as well as the formation of private patient pathology services for the diagnostic department at Epsom & St Helier hospitals.
Bob was most recently CEO and Registered Manager at 25 Harley Street where he installed the integrated medical and diagnostic departments. He has also headed several companies specialising in digital medical and information platforms.
Simon Bullock (ACMA, CGMA) brings over 25 years finance experience including over 15 operating at FD/CFO level. After an early career with Mars and GE he turned his attention to supporting SME businesses across London and the Thames Valley with his experiences covering FMCG, Retail, Telecoms, Mining and Financial Services. Simon’s experience centres on building high performance finance functions with a strong controllership focus, business partnering and financial planning mind-set. Recent transactions include being instrumental in raising approximately £100 million in equity, debt and government grants for an early stage, disruptive, telecoms business.
